Enrique Freeman’s girlfriend, Anjali Silverheels, was a student-athlete at the University of Akron. She graduated earlier this year with a psychology degree.
While at Akron, Anjali made it to the Academic All-Mac list in all three years. The lacrosse player began dating the future NBA player in August 2021.
Enrique’s story leading up to the NBA draft is quite special. The Akron coach, John Groce, defined Enrique as a unicorn. He arrived at the school on an academic scholarship with no intention of playing basketball.
This year, Freeman was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and earned his spot in the AP’s honorable mention All-American team after leading the nation in rebounding.
Enrique had an outstanding showing at this year’s NBA Combine, and during the recent mock draft, Bleacher Report’s John Wasserman chose Freeman as the second-round pick for the Golden State Warriors.

Meet Enrique Freeman’s Girlfriend, Anjali Silverheels
Many of you might not know that Enrique Freeman’s girlfriend, Anjali Silverheels, is an athlete just like him. But unlike her boyfriend, it isn’t basketball that Anjali excelled at during her time at the University of Akron.
Before enrolling at the University of Akron in 2021, Anjali was a four-year letter winner in lacrosse at Hamburg High School. At Hamburg, she led her team to the Section 6 title as a freshman and runner-up in Section 6 finishes as a sophomore and junior.
As a sophomore, Anjali made it to the first-team All-Western New York and received second-team honors as a junior. She finished her career at Hamburg with 110 goals and 72 assists, earning 182 points.
In her first year at Akron, Anjali appeared in all 15 matches, scoring nine goals and making four assists. She made her way to Academic All-MAC honors in 2022. That year, she again started in all games and ranked third on the squad in points.
In 2023, Anjali made ten starts, posting five goals and two assists, but this year, it looks like Anjali took a step back from her lacrosse team as she made only one start but managed to record three goals and one assist.
Anjali is Sumana and David Silverheels’ only child. Anjali comes from a family with mixed cultures, with her mother, Sumana, hailing from Pune, India, and her father, David, a native of Buffalo.
David is a patient navigator and works specifically for patients from Indigenous and rural communities at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Sumana is the interim director for student accessibility services at Buffalo State College.
Enrique And Anjali Began Dating In 2021
The first time the two were spotted together was in a photo dump post shared by Enrique in September 2021. In the fourth slide of the post, we can see Anjali taking a quick selfie as Enrique drove.
Anjali went public with her romance with Enrique a few months later in December. She shared a gallery of images of those people who made her 2021 special, including Enrique, her parents, and her close friends.
Every year on August 2, Anjali shares a post celebrating their anniversary. In her last year’s post, Anjali wrote, “To many more years of the laughter and love you bring me! Cheers to us.”
Enrique and Anjali also appear to get along well with each other’s family. Enrique has been seen enjoying trips with Anjali’s parents, and Anjali was spotted attending Alicia Keys concert alongside Enrique’s family.
Anjali was also pictured alongside Enrique’s family after Akron’s basketball team won the MAC Tournament in March. And there’s a good chance we will see Anjali supporting Enrique on his draft day.
Meet Enrique Freeman’s Family: A Boy Raised By A Single Mom
Enrique Freeman’s mom, Tania Toress, is a police officer in the Cleveland Police Department. She is a single mother who has raised a handful of kids.
When Enrique first arrived at Akron, he didn’t even try out for the team as he feared his height of 6’4 wasn’t enough. But Tania gave him the confidence.
In an interview with Cleveland Magazine, Enrique said, “She is a single mom. She is everything to me. My mom taught me to work hard, and most importantly, she believed in me and pushed me to try out.”
Enrique grew up surrounded by six siblings. The former Akron player has five sisters, Isis, Nicole, Nautica, Beautiful, and Tatiana, and a brother, Steven.
Steven is Enrique’s half-brother from dad’s side. Steven is the child of Steven Freeman Sr and Jessica Vicens. Born on August 19, 1997, Steven played high school basketball at Martin de Porres High School and later at Dakota College, where he played two seasons.
Steven transferred to Edinboro University in 2018 and appeared in 24 games with three starts. He averaged 5.2 points and 1.8 rebounds. The two boys’ five sisters remain away from the spotlight but have appeared in a few of the photographs shared by Enrique on his Instagram.
