Catalina Sandino Moreno’s husband, David Elwell, met his wife on the sets of Maria Full of Grace in 2004. Elwell worked as a lighting technician.
Maria Full of Grace was Catalina’s debut movie and the project that got her nominated for the best actress category at the Oscars. The pair have always remained tight-lipped about their relationship status.
Only two years after their first meeting, the couple tied the knot on April 15, 2006. The wedding ceremony took place at Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
The Colombian actress isn’t social media savvy, and despite being on it since 2013, Catalina has only shared 56 posts on her Instagram.
The technician, David Elwell, doesn’t seem to have an Instagram handle. The last interview where Catalina mentioned her husband was when they hadn’t even tied the knot.
Catalina was interviewed by The New York Times after a favorable reception of her debut movie. The Times interviewed Catalina on the go while she and David enjoyed dinner with their friends.
When David and Catalina met on Maria Full of Grace’s sets, they both were in their early-mid 20s. Catalina, 23, and David, 25. It might have been the first project for Catalina, but David had already worked on several projects starting in 1997.
David had worked on nine projects before working on Maria Full of Grace, including The Guys, Party Monster, For Caroline, and World Traveler.
The last time we saw David involved in a project was in 2023, in the TV series Sitting in Bars with Cake. He was also the assistant chief lighting technician for the Dead To Me TV series.
Since working together on Catalina’s first project, the two have never worked together again. Though Catalina doesn’t share pictures of her and David on Instagram, she sure does share that of her son.

David And Catalina Are Parents To A Boy
David and Catalina welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in 2008. It was only earlier that year that The People magazine published a story stating the Colombian actress and her husband weren’t ready for kids.
In October 2008, The People put out another story contradicting their previous story and that Catalina and her husband were expecting a child. It is believed that the boy seen on Catalina’s Instagram handle, Lorenzo, is her and David’s only child.
Lorenzo appeared for the first time on Catalina’s Instagram handle in 2018. She had shared a photo of her and Lorenzo on his birthday. She captioned the post, “Happy birthday to this beautiful human. I ADORE YOU.”
On December 31, 2022, she shared another post for Lorenzo on his birthday. This time, Catalina wrote, “HB, my precious boy.”
And since then, she hasn’t shared any posts about her kid. If David had been more active on social media, we probably would’ve known more about their relationship and family.

The Colombian actress is one of two kids of her parents, Martha Moreno and Raul Sandino. She has a brother named Nicolas Sandino Moreno.
The From actress has never talked much about her personal life in the media. Her mother, Martha Moreno, is available on Facebook and has shared a few photographs of their family.
Martha is a graduate of the National University of Colombia and works there. On May 10, Martha shared an appreciation post for her daughter from the Facebook fan group of the series From.
Catalina had also shared the same photograph on her Instagram handle, alluding to fans that season 3 is coming soon. In April, Martha had taken a trip to Los Angeles, California, and had shared a few photos she took with her grandson, Lorenzo.
And it looks like Catalina’s brother, Nicolas, had also joined his family for the trip. Per his IMDb profile, Nicolas had previously worked as a director/producer/writer in the 2011 short movie La Siguiente Estacion.
He was also an additional crew for the 2016 movie Los Nadie. Nicolas is available on Instagram but has kept his handle private.
So, when it is about her family, Catalina seems to respect their privacy and isn’t seen sharing much about them.
