Why Was Terrence Shannon Jr. Arrested? Is He Going To Jail?
The Chicago, Illinois native saw an arrest warrant issued on December 27, 2023, by the Douglas County (Kansas) District Attorney, on the charge of rape.
A day later, he reportedly turned himself into the police and was arrested in Lawrence, Kansas. Terrence Jr. posted a bail of $50,000, shortly after being in custody.
According to the complaint, the case dates to September 9, 2023, when he traveled to Lawrence to attend the Illinois-Kansas football game, where the alleged sexual misconduct took place.
He is charged with sexual battery, sexual intercourse without consent and use of force, and unlawful touching of a teen (born in 2005). However, the identity of the victim is not out.
Due to his legal issue, the University suspended him from the Illini men’s basketball team.
The basketball player’s attorney stated that his client was innocent & had cooperated with law enforcement throughout the investigation since September before the warrant came out.
Also, he added that to prove his innocence Shannon Jr. intended to take his case to trial.
Further updates on the case are not out. However, it’s evident that if convicted, then the collegiate basketball star could see a sentence of a minimum of 147 months, i.e. 12 years (maximum 653 months, i.e. 54 years) and/or a fine of up to $300,000.
