Brecken Merrill’s parents, Jesse and Kristy Merrill, were undoubtedly responsible for the actor’s creative genes. The two support their son’s acting career and have previously spoken about their reaction when he first landed his role in Yellowstone.
Speaking to ET in 2023, Jesse and Kristy said they never thought Yellowstone would spawn prequels and sequels and become a huge hit.
Brecken landed the role of Tate Dutton when he was only eight. Kristy and Jesse were the first to know that their son had landed the role, and they wanted to film his reaction.
Jesse told Brecken that he needed to record the actor and his sister playing basketball for their PE class. But the truth was Jesse and Kristy were filming their son’s reaction to getting Yellowstone.
In his interview, Brecken recalled his mother handing him a stone painted yellow and telling him he booked Yellowstone.
The actor said, “I was like, ‘Wait, what?!’ I was so confused. I knew what she meant by it, but I couldn’t really register it in my head. So, I had to take a minute to think about what just happened.”
The actor said he feels thankful to his parents for recording that precious moment.
Brecken Merrill’s Mom Comes From An Army Family
Brecken Merrill’s mother, Kristy Phillips, is an author and has so far written three books. Kristy calls herself Jill-of-all-trades on her website and has written that she has worked as a writer, actor, model, nanny, rancher, and other professions.
Kristy was born in the Bay Area, but because of her dad being in the army, she lived in various states. Utah, Texas, Washington, and NYC are some states the writer lived in while growing up.
In 2021, Brecken shared an Instagram post talking about the veterans in his family. The youngster wished his followers Happy Veterans Day and thanked all the service men and women.
The actor wrote, “Today, I’m recognizing my great great grandfather Charles “Doc” Dambacher (WW1 veteran), my Papa Dambacher (WW2 veteran), my Grandpa Wayne (Vietnam), and my nana and papa Bob (Desert Storm).”
Merrill wrote his nana and Papa Bob have served in the Army and the Navy. He shared several photos of his ancestors and received thousands of comments from fans thanking his family for their service.
Kristy’s last book, Mine to Love (Copper Creek 1), was published in 2018. The Strawberry Wine’s author is available on Instagram and has shared several family photos.
Brecken Merrill’s Dad Is An Entrepreneur
Jesse Merrill isn’t as online as his wife, as the dad of three remains busy running his company. Jesse graduated from the University of Albany with a design and applied arts degree.
He previously worked as a VP of marketing at Honest Tea for four years, from 2006 until 2011. After leaving his job at Honest Tea, Jesse began working for Activate Drinks and stayed in the company for three years before starting his own business.
In 2014, Jesse established Good Culture, a food company that sells cottage cheese, sour cream, and lactose-free products. The company’s website states that Jesse established the business after he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune gut disease caused by chronic inflammation.
After his traditional doctor told him there was no cure, Jesse shifted to a clean and selective diet that included only cultured dairy, grass-fed animal protein, cooked vegetables, and fruit.
Three years after his diagnosis, Jesse cured himself, and it inspired him to launch the brand Good Culture. The company said its mission is to reinvent the food system from the (actual) ground up and to create a healthier planet, people, and animals.

On June 7, 2024, Kristy shared that her firstborn, Karis Merrill, had graduated from high school. She captioned the post, “So proud of my firstborn. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2024.”
Karis is available on Instagram, and on her bio, Karis has written Socal, hinting she will complete her college degree at the University of Southern California.

In 2023, Seren worked in the Christmas comedy movie Hope Street Holiday alongside Isadora Ortega and Rodney Rikai. The young star also starred in the TV series The Rookie in 2021.
