Chi Chi DeVayne, the star of RuPaul’s Drag Show, death was reportedly from scleroderma. The Drag Queen was only 34 at the time of her passing on August 20, 2020.
A fan favorite, Chi Chi DeVayne, gained popularity when she first appeared in Season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2016. She was also featured in Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars in 2018.
Born Zavion Michael Davenport, Chi Chi DeVayne was open about her health complications. Only a month before her demise, Chi Chi appeared on the YouTube channel Hey Qween and talked about living with scleroderma.
Chi Chi had started doing drag only for fun. She was a trained dancer and had found a way to incorporate her dancing skills into the drag shows.
She gained a following after she started performing at clubs. The small fanbase skyrocketed after her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Show, and her fan base certainly stuck beside her till the end.

Chi Chi DeVayne died in August 2020 after having been hospitalized for kidney failure only a month ago. Later, Chi Chi’s family confirmed that the cause of death was scleroderma.
In July 2020, Chi Chi shared a video on her Instagram page talking with her fans about her health crisis. She said in that video that the doctors were conducting tests to find out why she had high blood pressure.
DeVayne said, “They’ve said that I’m going through kidney failure. So, tomorrow, they’re going to give me a biopsy on my kidneys and let me know what it is that’s making my blood pressure so high, so I just want to say that I love you guys.”
In 2018, the drag star was diagnosed with scleroderma, an autoimmune disease that causes the body’s connective tissues to scar and harden.
She also warned her fans to take their health seriously and regularly visit their doctors. Many of her friends took to their social media handles to show Chi Chi their support and wish her a speedy recovery.
But sadly, a month later, Chi Chi’s family informed her fans about her demise. The Guardian reported that before her demise, DeVayne was readmitted with pneumonia.
Following Chi Chi’s demise, RuPaul Charles, the host of the drag shows, shared a heartfelt statement. He wrote, “I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul.
She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all.”
Chi Chi’s family also shared their statement on her Instagram handle. The post read, “On behalf of the Davenport/Wyandon family, it is with tremendous sorrow that my family and I announce the passing of my beloved son Zavion Michael Davenport, the world-renowned ‘Chi Chi DeVayne.
His final words to his family and fans, “Never give up!”

Chi Chi DeVayne Relationship: Who Was She Dating?
It’s unknown whether Chi Chi was single or not before her demise. But she was previously in a relationship with the Love Is Blind star Carlton Morton.
Carlton Morton gained notoriety after appearing in the first season of Netflix’s hit series Love Is Blind. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Morton surprised fans by saying he was in a relationship with Chi Chi before she shot to fame from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
In his post, Morton wrote, “I will miss you insanely, Zavion Michael Davenport. We spoke a few weeks ago, and we joked like always. You were one of my first boyfriends, even when I didn’t understand what that meant.
In his post, Carlton also recalled the time when the two had traveled to Paris when they were in their early 20s. He wrote that they had promised each other they would “make it” in the industry and how proud he had been when Chi Chi booked RuPaul’s Drag Race.

And that it was because of Drag Race that she had been able to get herself out of that situation. Chi Chi was born to Tina Davenport in Shreveport, Louisiana, and grew up alongside several siblings.
