Buhle Samuels, age 34, is the latest South African actor to try her hands in Nollywood. Born and raised in South Africa, Samuels made her acting debut in 2014.
The actress tied the knot in 2022 and tried to keep her wedding pictures off the internet. She married Thando Sonqishe, a South African businessman, in a traditional ceremony.
But there have been rumors circulating about the couple splitting up. Samuels has tried to keep her family life out of the public limelight and hasn’t spoken about the divorce rumors.
With her first Nollywood project, All’s Fair in Love, deemed a hit, there is a chance we can see her in even more Nollywood projects in the future. This year, Buhle has also marked her return to the show Muvhango, which catapulted her to fame back in 2014.
South African Actress Buhle Samuels Age And Wiki
Buhle Samuels, age 34, was born in Soweto but pre-dominantly spent most of her adulthood in Pretoria North. Samuels gained fame in 2014 when she starred in the long-running South African TV series Muvhango.
Samuels played the role of the seductive and cunning Matshidiso, a character thoroughly enjoyed by fans. Despite her success as an actor, Samuels always pointed out that her biggest love had always been singing.
So, after four seasons of playing Matshidiso and growing a considerable fanbase, Buhle decided to focus on her music career. She quit the show in 2018 but said the departure was amicable.
In an interview with Times Live, Buhle said, “This is where I started and learned almost everything I know. I have learned so much, but I had to be honest with myself and realize I have done my part.”
In the past, Buhle said it was only in her early 20s that she decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Growing up, she was an introverted kid and was shy around strangers.
Given her seductive role in Muvhango, Samuels said many are shocked seeing her shy nature. She also confronted her feeling of having confidence issues while growing up.
Though Samuels insists that her first love is music, the actor’s music career hasn’t quite taken off, as she only has a couple of songs in her discography.
After Muvhango, Samuels starred on the show IMBEWU: The Seed as Zandile, and in 2020, bagged the role of Angela Masire in the TV series Kings of Jo’burg.
Last year, Buhle partnered with the non-profit organization World Changers Candidates and released the single Say No for their new anti-drug theme song.
Return To Muvhango In 2024 And Diving Into Nollywood
Earlier this year, reports came through about Samuels returning to Muvhango as Matshidiso. In a conversation with TRUELOVE, Samuels said, “Coming back has been a conversation that has been ongoing for some time, and I just felt like energetically for me it was the right time.”
Earlier this year, the South African actress delved into Nollywood and starred in the movie All’s Fair in Love alongside actors Deyemi Okanlawon and Timini Egbuson.
The romantic comedy was a commercial success. The movie grossed over N90 million, making the list of top 100 highest-earning Nollywood films. Buhle promoted the movie through her Instagram page, where she is followed by over 1.5 million.

Buhle Samuels Wedding And Divorce
The South African actress and her husband Thado tried their best to stop any pictures from the wedding ceremony get leaked. But a few of the guests at their wedding did spill the bean of what it was to attend the ceremony.
Speaking to News24, one guest described the wedding as a beautiful and private affair.
The guest said, “They are both private people, and they asked us to respect that. I know videos of the wedding are flying around, but we had a good time. We enjoyed [ourselves]. We were treated well.”
Several known faces from the industry were present at Samuel’s wedding, including Natalie Hlahla, Phindile Gwala, and Yonda Thomas.
And though it looked like Samuels and Sonqishe’s wedding would be a success earlier this year, The South African media house reported that the couple is not seeing eye to eye.
They reported that the couple is living separately and is working through their issues. Samuels has never spoken about her married life and expectedly hasn’t said anything about her divorce.
There is a good chance that it could all be a rumor, and the couple wants to keep their married life as private as possible. Buhle’s husband, Thando, isn’t from the acting industry and is a businessman, so he is probably not used to this sort of attention from the public.
