Melissa And Her Ex-Husband, Jim, Share A Daughter
Melissa Womer and her ‘Liar Liar’ actor husband, Jim, are parents of their only child, daughter Jane Erin Carrey.
She was born on September 6, 1987, in Los Angeles, which makes her 37 year old as of 2024.
Even though, the details of her current profession are not out, she was a vocalist in her alternate rock band, The Jane Carrey Band. In 2009, they self-titled debut album.
Then, in 2012, Jane competed in Season 11 of American Idol and progressed through the live audition but got ejected in the opening week. After, she returned to her band, but the band has not been active since.
Womer’s daughter, Jane, has been married twice and is the mother of three kids.
First, she was in a marital relationship with Alex Santana, the vocalist of the LA-based band, Blood Money. They married on November 14, 2009, but filed for divorce in October 2011, which was finalized that year.
While together, the duo shared a son, Jackson Riley Santana (b. February 26, 2010).
Later, she found love with her second husband, Chase Bordelon, and welcomed two kids: daughter Erin Rey Bordelon and son Logan James Bordelon.
Womer Met Jim Carrey At A Comedy Club
While an undergraduate, Melissa worked as a cocktail waitress at a comedy store on Sunset Boulevard and occasionally performed in the open mic. It was at the club when she first met her then-husband, Jim Carrey, who was trying for gigs.
The two began dating in 1986 and Womer even helped Carrey start his comedy career. A year later, they married on March 28, 1987, in Santa Monica, California.
Since both of them struggled to meet the month’s end, their newlywed journey was nothing short of a challenge.
At that time, Jim made only $25 a night from his comedy venture, while Womer was pregnant with their first child. Despite that, until the trimester of her pregnancy, she worked two jobs to support the family.
Carrey’s Unhandled Success Caused Relationship To Deteriorate
For a few years into their marriage, Jim Carrey was used to failure, notably after the sitcom The Duck Factory. However, it didn’t keep him from trying to find his breakthrough into acting.
In all these periods, Melissa would stand by his side, consoling him, and later stated that her now ex-husband was “extremely depressive.”
However, after he got the role in three 1994 hit films, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber, things began to take a turn of events.
According to Womer, Carrey would not take in domestic roles (parenthood duties), and wanted to “enjoy success from the perspective of a single man.” By the time, he was filming Ace Ventura, their relationship began to deteriorate quickly.
When the former duo were newly in a relationship, they often used to discuss the pitfalls of Hollywood marriages and vowed to never let the mishaps touch them.
But all in vain, as after 6 years of marriage, Jim filed for divorce on November 1, 1993. It came seven months after the duo celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary at Peninsula Hotel.
Was Carrey’s Extra Marital Affair The Reason For Their Divorce?
Added that the claims of Jim’s success got his head into the cloud leading to his separation from Melissa, some even point out if the Hollywood actor’s extra-marital affair caused so. He was linked with none other than his co-star Lauren Holly.
As reported, during the shooting of Dumb and Dumber Too, the American actor had his gallbladder removal surgery and was resting in his hotel room.
When Melissa paid a surprise visit to him, a small group of people including Holly, who were present in the room became nervous, and Lauren ran out of the room.
Recalling the moment about her knowledge of her then-beau’s affair, she said, “I walked in the door, and I knew” in an interview with Rolling Stone.
But as per Holly, the two had already separated when she and Carrey began dating, “They keep calling me a homewrecker. I feel for Melissa, but they were completely apart when Jim and I met.”

Melissa Womer vs. Jim Carrey: Divorce Dispute And Alimony
In the court document filed for divorce, Carrey listed their date of separation as June 15, 1993. However, Womer condemned the claim and stated they officially broke up only after he called her in October 1993 to say he wasn’t coming home.
She even claimed that it was odd that Jim’s listed separation date coincided with the day he signed on for $7 million for The Mask.
According to California law, husband and wife must split all income earned during the marriage until their split.
Womer Demanded $5-$10 Million In Settlement
Until they officially divorced in 1995, Womer lived on a temporary alimony of $25K per month.
During the proceedings, Carrey offered her $ 500,000 once-off settlement, however, she reportedly demanded alimony between $5-$10 million. Even though, it’s not confirmed officially, sources say that she got a whopping $3.5 million in the settlement.
Moreover, after the settlement, the child support for their daughter, Jane, was reduced to $10K per month.
Their tumultuous relationship again attracted headlines in April 2003 after Melissa filed for the increment of child support, stating that $10,000 a month “is not sufficient” to meet the needs of their daughter.
The case settled shortly after but Carrey’s spokesperson declined to reveal the terms. However, there are claims that the settlement was worth $7 million.
