Devin Carter’s parents, Anthony and Cassie Carter, raised two sons. And if one is making national headlines, the other stays out of the spotlight.
The Providence guard, Devin Carter, 22, is one of the top collegiate players who has announced his participation in the upcoming NBA draft. He will joined by the likes of Ja’Kobe Walter and Tristan da Silva.
As he earned the Big East Player of the Year title last season, Devin is considered a lottery pick by most, and at worst, he is projected just outside the 14th pick.
The Bulls, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Miami Heat are some of his top suitors. With the 11th pick in the Bulls’ hands, Carter can be the right choice for them.
Devin Carter’s Parents: Meet Anthony And Cassie Carter
Devin Carter’s parents, Anthony and Cassie Carter, raised the Providence basketball player in Greenwood Village, Colorado. The 6’5 guard shares a close relationship with his dad, Anthony Carter, a former NBA player.
Anthony Carter, born in Wisconsin, played his early basketball in Atlanta. Anthony’s road to the NBA wasn’t a simple one. He dropped out of high school and spent some time around drug dealers for whom he played basketball to earn some money.
Anthony came from a broken household. His mother was on drugs, and there was a time when seven of his uncles were in jail. However, others around him realized Anthony’s basketball talent and enrolled him at Saddleback Community College.
Anthony Carter’s Basketball Career
Carter quickly made an impact at Saddleback. He only played two seasons with Saddleback but did enough to get himself inducted into their Hall of Fame.
After two seasons, Anthony joined the University of Hawaii, where he scored 1,070 points in two seasons. He scored 18.9 points per game, the second-highest in school history, and averaged 6.9 assists per game.
Carter led the Rainbows to a pair of National Invitational Tournaments and the title in 1997 in the Western Athletic Conference. He became the school’s first WAC Player of the Year and two-time Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American.
After going undrafted in the 1998 NBA Draft, Carter signed as a free agent with the Miami Heat. Carter’s NBA career was uneventful. He wasn’t a regular starter for any of the six NBA sides he played for from 1999-2012.
He made the most appearances for the Denver Nuggets from 2007 until 2011, where he recorded a career-high of 7.8 points per game. After retiring in 2012, Anthony decided to try his hand at coaching.
Career After NBA And Present Day
He joined the NBA G League team Austin Spurs as an assistant coach in 2013. Two years later, the Sacramento Kings hired him as their assistant coach.
After spending a year with the Kings, Carter was named the assistant coach of the D-League side Sioux Falls Skyforce. In 2018, he returned to the NBA with his former team, Miami Heat, as their player development coach.
Last year, Carter left the Heat after five years and joined the Grizzlies. Anthony is available on Instagram but rarely shares any posts.
In an interview, Devin said he holds great pride in having a dad who played in the NBA. Devin shared that his dad never pressured him to pick up basketball simply because he was a former player.
The youngster added that he and his dad would spend hours playing at Lifetime Fitness, Colorado. Devin shared that as a kid, he would regularly get beaten by his dad, but now he easily beats him every time.
In the end, Devin said, “He was known as a defensive player, so I always tried to take pride in my defense.”
Devin Carter’s Mom, Cassie Carter Is Highly Religious
It does look like Devin’s parents are no longer together. Devin’s mother, Cassie Carter, is available on Instagram and is seen sharing religious posts and conspiracy theories.
Many of her posts have a warning sign that says, “See why fact-checkers say this is an altered photo.”
Earlier this year, Cassie shared a congratulatory post for her son after he won Big East Player of the Year. In her lengthy post, Cassie shared her pride in Devin’s achievement and told him to follow Jesus’ teachings.
It is written on Providence’s website that Devin has a brother named Joshua Carter, but he is nowhere to be found. The two might not share a close relationship, or Joshua might be someone who prefers staying away from social media and the public limelight.
Devin Carter’s Girlfriend: Is He Dating Someone?
The 2024 NBA draftee, Devin Carter, hasn’t revealed whether he is in a relationship. But it looks like his mother did it for him.
In her congratulatory post for her son, Cassie shared a photo of Devin holding his Big East Player of the Trophy and standing with a woman who looked like his girlfriend.
The woman pictured alongside Devin hasn’t appeared in any of the photos on his Instagram. So, there is a chance that the basketball player wants to keep his relationship out of public scrutiny.
