Glenn Villeneuve Wiki & Age: Life Before The Fame For Glenn Villeneuve
Glenn Villeneuve, age 55, spent most of his adulthood in his hometown, Burlington, Vermont. Villeneuve’s non-traditional lifestyle has caught the eye of many, so it’s not shocking when someone asks him where he got the inspiration from.
Villeneuve says several different traditions influenced his lifestyle. Glenn states his curious mind and openness to do anything and everything led him down the non-traditional road.
Growing up, Glenn was an avid reader, and despite dropping out of school for the first time in grade four, his passion for reading never stopped. He would spend countless hours reading books in the library of the University of Vermont.
As Glenn was too young to own a library card, he would ask his maternal grandfather, a regular visitor at the library, to borrow certain books for him. Glen would read any sort of books he could get his hands on.
But as he got older, he became interested in studying anthropology. He was also keen on exploring his environment and had already started going out in the woods near his home at age five or six. By the time he was nine, Glenn had successfully climbed up one of the tallest mountains in Vermont.
In his interview with Fadam And Friends Podcast, Glenn talked about his life journey and how he ended up in Alaska. Having dropped out of school early on, Glenn spent his 20s traveling worldwide and living in big cities.
In his conversation with the podcast channel, Glenn said, “When some people would have been studying in college, I would be studying people’s homes around the world.”
But what was Glenn’s job that allowed him to travel worldwide? Before the internet became the big thing, Glenn worked as a freelancer for companies that required him to drop documents in various countries.
The companies used people like Glenn to bypass the customs and get the documents as quickly as possible to another part of the world.
The Idea Of Settling Down In Alaska
The thought of settling down in isolated areas came into Glenn’s mind in 1997, and he had found a perfect spot in his hometown. He talked about his decision with his then-girlfriend, whom he had met in New York City.
His girlfriend eventually followed him to Alaska, where he had first arrived in 1999. In Alaska, Glenn lived his first four years in Fairbanks, building a small log cabin for his settlement.
But his actual plan was to settle down in the Brooks Range, and it took him four years to accomplish that goal.
Before heading to Alaska, Glenn researched whether he could live like a hunter-gatherer even in the current century. After completing his research, Glenn concluded that Alaska could be the only viable place to fulfill his dream of living like a hunter-gatherer.
Glenn said that if it weren’t legal to live like that in Alaska, his plan of non-tradition living would have gone down in drain. A year before traveling to Alaska, in 1996, he had visited northern Canada with his then-girlfriend and had plans to settle down there.
But he couldn’t, as it was illegal to do so. As Glenn planned to settle in Alaska, he got into aviation and was issued a pilot license.
After Glenn finally settled in the Brooks Range in 2004, he began spending half his time living in the Brooks Range and half his time in Fairbanks.
Before he gained fame through TV, Glenn worked in real estate. It was one of his sole ways to survive in Alaska. In his Facebook FAQ, Glenn also said his investments in the stock market helped him.
Glenn Villeneuve Marriage And Wife
Glenn Villeneuve was married once before he met his current wife. He met his first wife, Silvia Daeumichen, in Soho, Manhattan, and the two quickly hit off.
They met in 1996 when Silvia was still a student and an Opera singer. Daeumichen hailed from Berlin and grew up in East Germany. In his interview, Glenn revealed that he also had spent a few years in Berlin.
Silvia and Glenn tied the knot in 2001 and were married for 12 years. The two also parented two kids, a daughter, Willow Leaves, and a son, Wolf Song.
When asked about the inspiration behind his kids’ names, Glenn said he got the idea for his daughter’s name when he went for a walk. During his walk, he saw the first leaves coming out on the willows during the spring season.
In his Facebook post, Glenn said willow leaves are important wild food at that time of year. The name Wolf Song came to his mind when he and Willow would stand beside the lake in the evening, and they would hear wolf’s howls. If there were wolves in the valley, they would often howl back.
Soon after divorcing Silvia, Glenn met Trisha through an online dating platform. Like Glenn, Trisha was also previously married and had one daughter named Amelia from the previous marriage.
Trisha and her daughter later came to live with Glenn in Alaska. The couple welcomed their first child together in 2014 and named their daughter Agatha.
But it looks like Glenn has separated from Trisha as he was seen sharing an appreciation post for his girlfriend Shalane Frost on his Instagram handle.
You can see several family photos of the huntsman on his Instagram page, where he has been sharing pictures since 2022.
Glenn Villeneuve’s Net Worth: How Much Did He Earn From Life Below Zero?
Glenn Villeneuve reportedly has a net worth of $700,000. As reported by Distractify, Glenn made $200,000 per year from the National Geography Show.
In his Facebook FAQ, Glenn has admitted that his television gig has helped him increase his income source.
In his Joe Rogan Show appearance, Glenn talked about how he came to be on Life Below Zero. Before Glenn met with the show’s executive producer, he had been living for four and a half months all by himself. He had not seen anyone during that period.
When Rogan asked Villeneuve how they came to know of him, Villeneuve had an interesting story. Just a year before the show aired, in 2012, Glenn was looking for a way to tell his story to the masses.
One of his friends handed him the e-mail ID of a producer to whom Glenn wrote and said he was interested in making a documentary. After he wrote that mail, Glenn went back to isolation and replied to them only after eight months.
And that is how he got his big break on TV. Glenn appeared in 77 episodes throughout the first six seasons. His departure from the show was abrupt.
On his social media handle, Glenn said he hadn’t heard from the show’s producer after filming his moose hunt. He wrote, “No goodbyes, no thank you for over 85 episodes, no explanations.
After several months passed, I inquired as to what was up, and they replied that the schedule had been filled, with no plans to film with me.”
Later in the Joe Rogan podcast, Glenn confirmed he had creative differences with the creators.
