A veteran at work, Idris Elba deserves rightful praise for his role. But some fans aren’t happy with the show. Some have even dismissed the show as a forgettable and inconsequential diversion.

What is the TV Miniseries Knuckles About?

Based on the character of the same name, Knuckles is the live-action spinoff series of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise. The show shines the light on Sonic’s former rival, the hot-headed echidna warrior, who teaches Deputy Sheriff Wade Whipple his ways.

Knuckles was missing in the 2020 live-action adaption of Sonic the Hedgehog. He appeared for the first time in the second movie released in 2022, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Knuckles goes from being Sonic’s enemy alongside Dr.Robotonik to his ally. At first, Knuckles partners with Dr. Robotnik and helps him escape the mushroom planet.

Knuckle’s sole mission is to find the Master Emerald and bring honor to his family. But soon, he realizes that Dr. Robotonik is playing him, and the echidna decides to partner with Sonic.

The movie ends with Knuckles making a pact with Sonic to protect the emeralds from evil and live an idyllic life with the Wachowskis family.

The Knuckles miniseries solely focuses on the red echidna and his adventure with Green Hills deputy Wade Whipple.

The duo take a trip to Reno, Nevada, with Knuckles determined to make Whipple an Echidna warrior like him and Whipple eager to reconnect with his estranged dad and beat him in a bowling tournament.

Who Are The Cast Members of Knuckles?

Idris Elba reprises the voice of Knuckles in the miniseries, having voiced the character in 2022 for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Speaking in the Paramount red carpet premiere, Elba said, “It felt like a bit of a dream. It feels like being able to step into a video game and a film because I’ve always loved Sonic.

Sonic isn’t the first franchise for whom Elba has lent his voice. He previously voiced Chief Bogo in the 2016 movie Zootopia. Later that year, he voiced Shere Khan in the film The Jungle Book.

2016 was the year Idris put his voice to use.  His voice was also heard in the movie Finding Dory. The Avengers actor has also lent his voice to video games, including Call of Duty and NBA 2K20.

The veteran’s performance has been praised by critics and viewers alike. Many have said that Elba brings much-needed excitement to the show.

Adam Pally is the other lead actor in the miniseries and has received equal recognition for his role as Deputy Wade Whipple. The American comedian and actor gets his chance to shine in the series about Knuckles.

As much as the series is about Knuckles as the star, it is also about Wade trying to prove that he is not a laughing stock.

Pally has been a voice actor in several TV series, including Star Trek: Lower Decks. Earlier this year, Pally was seen in an episode of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver and also in the comedy flick The Gutter.

Other cast members include Stockard Channing as Wendy Whipple, Edi Patterson as Wanda Whipple, Scott Mescud as Agent Mason, and Ellie Taylor as Agent Willoughby.

Will There Be Knuckles Season 2?

With the TV series receiving mixed reviews, it is to be seen whether the show gets a second season. Nothing has been confirmed yet, and with a conclusive ending, it doesn’t seem a second season is guaranteed.

Paramount Plus hasn’t announced whether a second season of Knuckles will be released. The fate of the miniseries might lie in the viewership it gains.

The show’s producer, Toby Ascher, previously hinted at season 2 before the release of season 1. Ascher said, “If something is working successfully, and we have a great story to tell, we’re going to expand on it.”

He added that it’s important for them to know they are not just making stuff to make stuff. If Knuckles does get the green light for season 2, its plot might rely on what happens in the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is slated for release on December 20, 2024.
